From the Editor:

2010 in Review

Wow, 2010 is almost over! Where does the time go?

The Eugene Chapter had another busy year. This year we:

Whew!

The Eugene Chapter is run completely by volunteer time and energy. We still need volunteers to host potlucks in the coming months. If you are able to host a potluck or community food preparation event please contact .

"Popcorn Review" December 10th

This month's DVD The Oiling of America by Sally Fallon Morrell will occur earlier than usual. While I usually try to reserve the 3rd or 4th Friday of the month for DVDs, this month the Market of Choice was full those times. So Please join us on December 10th.

Reminder - The Local Member Directory is Open to All Local People

The Eugene Chapter's Local Member Directory (located at the end of each Newsletter), is now open to ALL businesses, not just those in the food, health and nutrition categories. There are no membership dues or requirements. We would like to encourage everyone to shop local and support each other, so please check out the current listings, and consider adding yourself to the directory.

December Events:

"The Popcorn Review"

"The Oiling of America"

by Sally Fallon Morrell

Friday, December 10, 2010
DVD begins at 6:30 (ends approximately at 8:30 PM)
Discussion time before and after movie - 6:00 to 9:00 PM

Location:
Market of Choice
67 West 29th, Eugene
Upstairs in the Community Room

This is a great presentation for beginners and experienced WAPF people alike. Bring a guest, or better yet, your doctor!

For fifty years, big business, government agencies and medical organizations have campaigned deceptively against animal fats, meat, eggs, butter and other nutritious, traditional foods, leading to huge profits from the sale of toxic margarine, shortenings and liquid vegetable oils, and the foods that contain them. Scientific data contradicting current anti-animal fat public health policy was suppressed and censored for many years. Dr. Enig and Sally Fallon now tell you the truth about how that happened.

The Oiling of America will open your eyes to fraud and deception behind the lipid hypothesis of heart disease. Topics include:

  • How scientists cheat in scientific studies
  • Why cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease
  • The dangers of cholesterol-lowering diets and drugs
  • Why trans fatty acids and liquid vegetable oils are so dangerous to human health

RSVP:
Please RSVP ( ) if you think you will be attending. If your plans change, always feel free to just show up.

Cost:
Donations of $5-10 donation to the Eugene Chapter are suggested and appreciated.
(No one should miss a showing because of cost, so a sliding scale for low-income people is $1-4 or volunteer to help the Eugene Chapter).

We have had such interesting conversations before and after the last couple of DVDs that I have decided to offer more time for discussion. We will have the room available from 6:00 to 9:00. You are welcome to buy food downstairs in Market of Choice or (shh, don't tell them I told you this) bring something from home to eat in the room.

Notes on Potlucks:

Eugene Chapter potlucks are a great place to sample traditional foods and ask questions. People who are new to this way of eating are encouraged to attend.

New to all of this?
For those of you who are new to The Weston A. Price Foundation principles please see the
Dietary Guidelines and Characteristics of Traditional Diets for a brief overview, and then get a copy of the book Nourishing Traditions for in-depth information and recipes.

Don't know what to bring?
See the above links for general guidelines about what is recommended by WAPF. Anything from Nourishing Traditions is wonderful, but don't feel it has to be extensive or elaborate. A simple homemade meal made from scratch using natural fats would be a great contribution.

Making It Practical

Concerned about cost?
The idea is to bring enough food to feed yourself and whoever else you bring. It should be enough food so that you would feel full if you ate nothing but what you brought. You do not need to bring enough food to feed 6-12 people unless you are bringing 6-12 people! The idea is for everyone to taste each dish and have enough food to feel satisfied. Yes, real food costs more than boxed/processed/artificial food. The savings are in your health and energy level and the benefit to the ecosystem.

Healthy Eating Shouldn't Cost an Arm and a Leg

Concerned about time?
Our potlucks are traditionally on Monday evenings. If you have work or school on Mondays, please feel free to make your dish on Sunday and bring it to the event to heat up or assemble if needed.

It is worth the effort!
Hopefully meeting new people who share a passion for good food, asking questions and learning from each other, will make it worth all your time and effort to get to the event.

Suggestions?
Let us know if you have suggestions to make these events more enjoyable.

Wise Traditions Conferences
Audio Files

I have frequently wished that all of the sessions at Wise Traditions Conferences were video recorded. We show DVDs at our monthly "Popcorn Review" showings, but there are about four times more audio recordings than DVDs.

In order to share these recordings, I have decided to make this audio player available for rent to local members. It comes with your choice of one or more audio recordings loaded.

There are over 150 presentations. You can view the complete list available on our Audio Recordings page. The small size of this audio player makes it easy to put it into a pocket and listen while walking, cooking, gardening or whenever it is convenient.

Local Member Directory

We would like to offer the space below to local people who wish to make their goods and services known to other local members. This directory is open to all local people receiving this newsletter. This directory is intended to encourage support of local businesses of all kinds. In these uncertain economic times, wouldn't you prefer to do business with other people who care about traditional and local food?

You do not need to be a member of the Weston A. Price Foundation, and the Eugene Chapter has no membership dues, so if you are reading this I consider you to be a "member" of our local WAPF community. You are welcome and encouraged to list your goods or service in our directory.

Food producers and health practitioners are encouraged to participate, but it is open to all types of businesses.

Please send any of the following information by email to : business name, contact name, phone, email, web, address, and a BRIEF (50-80 words) description of your good or service. Remember that this will be archived on the web, so don't include any personal information that you do not want available.

There is no charge for listing in the directory. We do it as a service to our community. See below for listings!
