The Eugene, Oregon Chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation is pleased to offer handmade Kraut Pounders. Each Kraut Pounder is turned from a solid piece of hardwood Eastern Birch or Maple. Each Kraut Pounder has unique markings. These natural hardwoods are predominantly light-colored, and as with all natural wood may have darker pigments, swirling figure and markings through-out the wood. Hand crafted in Eugene, Oregon.

The original pounder we are using as a pattern was passed down to one of our Eugene Chapter members from her grandmother.

"Nana used it during her long life, it was then passed onto me and is still going strong. Nana was a strong, self-reliant and industrious German woman who loved her garden, high fat foods and organ meats. Nana passed away one month shy of her 104th birthday. Her life was a fine example of the Weston A. Price Foundation principles right down to the cod liver oil!"

Nana's original Kraut Pounder is over 75 years old, and continues to make great sauerkraut!

Kraut Pounders make it easy to create homemade sauerkraut, kimchi, ginger carrots and any other lacto-fermented foods that need to be pounded or pressed.

Measuring 11 inches tall & 2-1/2 inches across the base, Kraut Pounders are conveniently sized to fit into wide mouth canning jars.

A Kraut Pounder makes it easy to mix and pound vegetables in a large bowl to release the natural juices, and work great to press the food into one quart, half gallon, one gallon jars, and larger sized crocks.
